Developments
January 2011
While preparing my annual news update I was wondering what really happened this year 2010?
Unfortunately my conclusion is that still a lot of companies didn’t change at all.
Barely any investments were made due to limited financial sources but also fear seems to have been an important factor and this has caused postponing of investments. Most companies are still very reluctant to start real innovations and try new ideas, technology and change.
On the other hand, in some cases small investments can realize big returns and improvements as we can see with LetterGen.
LetterGen
Is a smart, productive and easy to integrate business document generation software solution that can give an enormous boost to your internal and external communication.
It allows users to produce dynamically generated documents that are created by using several different data sources and content. The output can be delivered to the users/customers in all kind of different formats like: PDF, Word, ODF, RTF, HTML, Fax, Email, and Printing. The solutions are also available as SaaS, (Software as a Service) for more information and demo look at:

Repositioning IT
As the IT business is maturing it is necessary to think about a repositioning of the IT function within organizations.
Through developments like Cloud, SAAS, Web 2.0 or 3.0 etc it will be possible for companies to just concentrate on the core business of a company and treat IT solutions as (very important) “raw material “ in managing the business.
Two very important considerations are:
- The (Business) Architecture and the Governance within the company are well implemented!
- Application solutions and/or (offshore) IT Support services become “normal” shackles within the value chain of a regular business process.
Although most of the software solutions that are delivered these days are strong and robust, in practice we still see that most of the companies do not have either a good insight or oversight of their processes of a complete value chain and thus a lot of investment return is not realized.
With programs such as Lean/Six Sigma they improve (often a one off investment) and streamlining has been achieved but most organizations should develop a Continuous Operational improvement across the end to end value chain including the clients!
Another short fall we unfortunately often see is the absence of a mature requirements management process.
Particularly with standard Package solutions, but even more when using standardized solutions from the Cloud; processes must be defined to avoid unnecessary customizations in the Software Package that will cause more complex and thus expensive maintenance.
It is crucial to have a clear insight in the own processes and process flow and to simulate upfront with different scenario’s to create the best solution.
Nimbus Control is a great solution to really achieve these goals because Nimbus delivers trusted, sustainable business process improvement!
How? Through the award winning business process management software, Nimbus Control.
At Nimbus they take a different approach to other process management vendors. Rather than focusing on the needs of a small team of highly trained analysts, Nimbus Control is designed to be understood and used by all your people. Your staff will better understand their roles, their processes and the quality and compliance requirements which impact them.
Now all of your employees can play their part in continuous process and performance improvement, making your business processes a valuable and up-to-date asset for competitive advantage. As a result it’s faster and easier for employees to do the right thing at the right time, your organization instantly becomes better equipped to manage change, outsourcing, or major projects and sustained business improvement becomes reality. Business Migration (= Process Migration and Data Migration)
One of positive consequences of the Credit Crunch is that due to limited sources companies eventually see the necessity of cleaning up their most of the time very complex Application Landscape.
Within this landscape they are often occur more than one application that have the same functionality and/or overlaps and a lot of systems have reached end of life and should be decommissioned. So starting projects that solve this migration is of great importance and the way that firms execute these migrations will of course determine the outcome.
With the more traditional approaches such as ETL the focus is mainly on the Data and also goes with long lead-times, and expensive effort with a lot of risks towards a big bang. The chance of failure is well known to us all.
With Evolve (of Celona,
www.celona.com) you get an integrated approach/solution to migrate from a Business process point of view.
The benefits are huge, the migration will be much faster, flexible and with full control to the desired end state and will save a lot of money!
For those companies that recognize these upcoming migrations it would be good to think about setting up a Migration Factory or Migration Center of Excellence with help of the Innovative Migration Suite Evolve of Celona.
